Bluebeard's Egg is a book of twelve short stories. The short stories touch upon childhood memories and the cruelty men and women inflict upon themselves and each other. One of these short stories is entitled "Bluebeard's Egg," where the Bluebeard legend is retold as an ironic tale of marital deception. Atwood's humour and compassion seeps through the pages of this book and you can't help but tip your hat off once again to her writing style and creativity.
My Opinion -
I enjoyed the book from the very beginning, partly because I am a big fan of the short story genre. Each story captured my imagination and her injection of humour kept me intrigued and always wanting more. Some of the stories creatively portray some of the love/hate relationships between men and women. I liked how Atwood played with stereotypes and assigned them to the opposite character that these stereotypes are generally attached to. The stories in this book were stories of life, rich in imagery and language. Her stories were a comment on society today and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for an engaging quick read.
